What is Ton?

The Open Network (TON) is a decentralized computer network that allows users to create and use applications and cryptocurrencies. It was originally developed by Nikolai Durov, the creator of Telegram, and was previously known as Telegram Open Network.

TON is designed to support fast transactions and a variety of decentralized applications (dApps). It has several components, including:

  • TON Blockchain: The core protocol that connects the TON ecosystem

  • TON DNS: Assigns human-readable names to accounts and dApps

  • TON Storage: A decentralized file storage system that allows users to access and share data

  • TON Sites: Allows users to launch a web server and make it available on the TON network

  • TON Payments: Allows users to make instant payments without waiting for block confirmation or paying transaction fees

  • TON Space: Integrates with Telegram to provide easy access to wallets and other digital assets

TON is designed to process millions of transactions per second and support hundreds of millions of users. It uses a Byzantine Fault Tolerance protocol called Catchain Consensus to achieve network consensus.

Users can buy and store TON on cryptocurrency exchanges or directly on the Telegram platform.

The Open Network (TON) is a decentralized and open internet platform made up of several components. These include: TON Blockchain, TON DNS, TON Storage, and TON Sites. TON Blockchain is the core protocol that connects TON’s underlying infrastructure together to form the greater TON Ecosystem.

TON is focused on achieving widespread cross-chain interoperability, while operating in a highly scalable secure framework. TON is designed to process millions of transactions per second (TPS), with the goal of eventually reaching hundreds of millions of users moving forward.

TON Blockchain is designed as a distributed supercomputer, or “superserver,” intended to provide a variety of products and services to contribute to the development of the decentralized vision for the new internet.
